Safety Expo provides much exposure to Amateur Radio
Washington County ARES members staffed two displays Saturday, May 2, at a Public Safety Expo organized by Washington County and the City of Woodbury. Many displays and demonstrations were available for members of the public. Washington County ARES Had a tower trailer in the main parking lot display area courtesy of Dave, KB0SED. The tower showed a critical asset available for emergency communications and public service events. Thanks, Dave! The second display was an informational booth inside Bielenberg Sports Center. The booth had hams in attendance to talk about emergency communications and amateur radio. Significant points about ARES capabilities and prior ARES service at disasters were displayed and literature was passed out from ARRL regarding Amateur Radio and emergency communications. Literature about EmComm and What Is Ham Radio were popular. Information sheets and applications were also available from the three Amateur Radio clubs in Washington County: Mining Radio Club, Stillwater Amateur Radio Association (SARA), and South East Metro Amateur Radio Club (SEMARC). Several sheets were taken by attendees regarding each club. Thanks to all who helped staff the displays and interact with the public. The turnout was very good, both by families attending the event and by walk-ins who were there for hockey practice.
