Ham Radio is active during Hurricane Sandy; check these sites (as of Nov. 5)

Here is a list of some of the sites that provide information on ham radio usage during the Hurricane Sandy response period.
1. Check the ARRL.org page under "News & Features" tab. The first two pages had three stories. There was quite a bit of activity across the eastern states.
2. Check New York ARECS page: www.nyc-arecs.org/sandy.html
3. Try http://articles.philly.com/2012-10-30/news/34796630_1_emergency-shelter-... ; you can copy and paste it in your browser or (joy) type it all in by hand (not recommended).
4. This Red Cross site provides sites where food trucks are located for a boots on the ground look: http://newsroom.redcross.org
If you read between the lines, these sites all show how important it is to PLAN AHEAD for an evacuation location for your family. This is the very point that was made during our first of the month MNWASHCOARES net November 4th. It was based on watching Hurricane Sandy coverage and on The ARRL Emergency Communication Handbook published by the ARRL, Chapter 15 (Personal Safety, Survival, and Health).
