ARES called on for help in Louisiana flooding

ARES members from Mississippi and Louisiana have been called on to help with communications among 40 Red Cross shelters during floods in August 2016. Check the ARRL/News web site for additional details.

MNWASHCOARES supports Radiological Emergency Preparedness Drill

Members of the Washington County ARES group successfully participated in the July 20 REP Exercise. Sixteen members handled communications for the multiple stations during the exercise. The Amateur Radio Operators (ARO's) used ARMER handheld radios to provide necessary communications. Thanks to all our dedicated members who provide communications services to support our county and communities.

Mobile - Portable - Go-Kit Picnic is Saturday, June 11; 10:30

The SARA and WashCo ARES Mobile - Portable - Go-Kit Picnic is Saturday, June 11th, at Brekke Park in Stillwater. It starts at 10:30 am. This is a fun get together for SARA and ARES members to share their mobile, portable, and go-kits with other amateur radio operators. Come on over to share and learn. Take home some good ideas. See how your fellow amateurs have solved their challenges. Hot dogs and beverages will be provided. Join us if you can!! Thanks for your support of Amateur Radio!!

Armed Forces Day 2016 Communication Test to be held MAY 14; Military-Hams to talk

The 2016 Armed Forces Day will hold a Communications test which includes direct Military - Ham communications on the 60 meter band. Modes will include SSB, CW, and digital. QSL cards will be provided for successful contact. The joint military/Amateur Radio event is sponsored by the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. More details are available on . COMEX 2016 16-1 completed

The Communications Exercise between MARS and ARES held on February 12 is now in the books. Numbered 16-1, the report on the results was good. Communications were established with counties across the state with current conditions reported. Washington County ARES members had several participants. Thanks for your support of Amateur Radio and ARES!! We might be needed tomorrow, so good job in establishing communications.

Sign Up for a Skywarn Class; Schedule posted online

Skywarn classes for 2016 are posted on their web site. Just go to to view the class schedule. Both SARA and SEMARC sponsor a class in their area (Feb. 27 for SARA and Apr. 23 for SEMARC). This class and certification is a good one to have in your skill set. They must be renewed every two years. The material gets better every year, so join your fellow ARES members for the latest informative class. You can sign up on line.

WashCo ARES Build Day removed from April 23 due to conflict

The ARES Build Day is moved off from April 23 to a date To Be Determined due to a conflict with Skywarn Training. Stay tuned for new date.

Date Changes for NNET Newsletter

Please note two changes to the dates in the NNET Newsletter Jan - Apr: 1. MN VOAD date is set for March 19. 2. REP training date is changed to July 11 (two days earlier). The Drill will still be held July 20.

Wash County ARES, Minnesota ARES groups to participate in COMEX with MARS; New Feb. EX. coming February 12; stand by for notice

A February exercise is expected in the area of February 12. Stand-by for information to be sent to all ARES members on short notice. All Minnesota ARES groups have been asked to participate in a communications with MARS and the Department of Defense on November 7th and 8th. Simulated Emergency Test (SET) to be held Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015

The Simulated Emergency Test (SET) is scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd. The focus will be to provide communications for out partners with whom we have an MOU. We will use voice and FL digi to pass messages. We will also pass a message via NTS to Washington County, Oregon. ARES members will be asked to choose a site from which to operate. Theses will include hospitals, shelter sites, simulated EOC, and home QTH relay stations. We will meet at the Woodbury Old Country Buffet for a debrief and a meal after the drill. Hope all members can join in for this exercise.
